Braskem, Topsoe to build a demo bio-MEG plant

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate here in the USA! I still have more ‘catching up’ posts and this one has already been announced back in July during the BIO World Congress but I guess the press statement (delivered by our friends from Sustainability Consult) just made it official. Braskem has signed a partnership with … Continue reading »

Pilot Plant Demonstrates the Potential to Co-Process Biomass Streams with Petroleum

It’s Saturday and I am still working on my Biomaterials newsletter (poor me!) but I just want to post this press release from the US DOE as I find this technology very interesting. Cut and paste story below: The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), together with leading petroleum refining technologies supplier W.R. Grace, and leading … Continue reading »

Leaf Resources in biorefinery JV

I had an interesting interview with Australia-based Leaf Resources regarding their biomass pre-treatment technology called Glycell, which uses glycerol as a reagent, in order to break down plant biomass into lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose at low temperature and pressure. Leaf Resources recently announced a joint venture called Leaf Development LLC with Claeris LLC of Dallas, … Continue reading »

I will report all of this for Tecnon OrbiChem’s Biomaterials newsletter … Continue reading »

GFBiochemicals to start using wood waste feedstock in 2016

I always enjoyed visiting production facilities and learning how chemicals are produced in reality! And yes, like somebody I know – you know who you are! 😉  –  I also enjoyed taking a selfie with my protective gear on (hard hat, lab coat, eyewear, etc). GFBiochemicals was kind enough to invite me to their press … Continue reading »
