Green Biologics starts bio-butanol plant construction

It’s 4am Italy time and yes, this is as good time as any to blog before I leave back to NYC this morning. I had a great time visiting GF Biochemicals here in Caserta and will blog about it soon.

In the meantime, I am still catching up to some of the news on my inbox, this one from Green Biologics. The UK-based industrial biotechnology company recently announced that it has started with the construction of its bio-based n-butanol and acetone manufacturing facility in Little Falls, Minnesota.  The existing 21 million gal/year ethanol manufacturing site, formerly known as the Central MN Ethanol Cooperative (CMEC), was acquired by Green Biologics in December 2014 and re-named Central MN Renewables (CMR).

Permitting was completed in late August and the construction began on September 1. Commercial production is scheduled to start in 2016. More of my analysis on the bio-based n-butanol developments will be reported on the December issue of Tecnon OrbiChem’s Bio-materials newsletter.
