The plant cost $300 million and has an annual capacity of 66,000 metric tons, sourcing dent corn grown within a 100-mile radius.     The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) today announced that Senators Stabenow (D-MI), Coons (D-DE) and Franken (D-MN) has introduced S. 2271, the Renewable Chemicals Act of 2015, a bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide credits for the production of renewable chemicals and investments in renewable chemical production facilities. S. 2271 would create a targeted, short-term tax credit of 15 cents per pound for production of eligible renewable chemicals from biomass feedstock. In lieu of the production tax credit, producers could elect to take a 30% investment tax credit for qualified investments for new renewable chemical production…

    ASTM International will soon release its new standard, ASTM D7991, on test methods for determining aerobic biodegradation of plastics in marine environments. The tests will provide ways to simulate how plastics degrade in seawater-soaked sand. It will provide specific test methods that determine biodegradation rates in different marine habitats simulated in laboratories. Such tests will help establish parameters to develop plastics that ensure faster biodegradation. The standard will also advance the understanding of biodegradation when unexpected or uncontrolled releases of plastics occur.     I used to cover the very small jojoba oil market when I was writing for Chemical Market Reporter magazine. I got some flashbacks when I saw this news from Vantage Specialty Ingredients that it has recently acquired a majority share in Agrinsa, one of the largest jojoba farms located in Argentina.
