US football team partners with Braskem in plastic recycling

It’s the start of the football season! Unfortunately, my Giants team doesn’t seem to be doing well based on their performance last Sunday. The Eagles team is definitely not one of my favorites (sorry!) but I’m glad the team’s owners are working on minimizing their plastic wastes by partnering with Braskem in plastic recycling.

Braskem says it enters into a nine-year sustainability-focused partnership with the Eagles that will include the development of a closed-loop recycling program for bottle caps and other plastic products at Lincoln Financial Field, the home of the Philadelphia Eagles. The team Braskem have also launched an online education platform for 30 Philadelphia-area county schools to teach students about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) career opportunities to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.

Through this new integrated partnership, Lincoln Financial Field’s Northeast Gate will be renamed the Braskem Gate. In addition, the partners will jointly develop recycling awareness content for exposure across the team’s digital and social channels.

An interesting development that I’m monitoring is Braskem’s potential merger with LyondellBasell. Let’s see how this discussion will proceed given the mega-mergers going on in the chemical industry (DowDuPont, BASF’s acquisition of Bayer Crop Science businesses, ChemChina/Syngenta, Sherwin-Williams/Valspar…).
