My special report on Tecnon OrbiChem’s Bio-Materials newsletter this month was about fermentation-based surfactants particularly glycolipids given BASF’s recent investments in this market. Unilever was also mentioned in my report as one of the big consumer brands that are now also using glycolipids in some of its detergents portfolio. Unilever’s goal, as publicly announced by … Continue reading
Since 2013, Tecnon OrbiChem has been providing information on bio-based chemicals including oleochemicals in our monthly Bio-Materials Chemical Business Focus. We have both expanded and focussed our oleochemicals coverage to create a new Oleochemicals Including Surfactants, Biofuels and Glycerol-derived Intermediates Chemical Business Focus monthly report. The content and format of this new service is based … Continue reading
I’ve been introduced last month to Locus Bio-Energy Solutions™ as I interviewed CEO Jonathan Rogers about their bio-based surfactants (mostly glycolipids) for use in the oil and gas market. A more comprehensive article about my interview has just been published this week on Tecnon OrbiChem’s September Biomaterials newsletter. Next week, Locus Bio-Energy is formally opening … Continue reading
I just saw this news about SC Johnson agreeing to purchase Method and Ecover for an undisclosed amount. This is an interesting news since Method and Ecover (I believe) are the two largest manufacturers of several bio-based cleaning and home care products. Belgium-based Ecover bought US-based Method in 2012. SC Johnson Signs Agreement to … Continue reading

The blog remembered reporting the acquisition of Toms Of Maine by Colgate-Palmolive back in 2006. I am guessing that the appeal for big consumer products companies of expanding into natural-based consumer products is back again as Unilever announced yesterday its acquisition of Seventh Generation, a well-known promoter of plant-based ingredients and packaging for its use on … Continue reading

I’ll posting some news that came in last month soon but in the meantime, can you spot … Continue reading

For the past several months now, I have been covering several renewable-based and biotechnology-based surfactants for Tecnon OrbiChem’s Bio-materials reports (mostly under oleochemicals) but let’s go back again to sugar-based surfactants such as glycolipids. Last year, the blog reported about Logos Technologies’ NatSurFact® line of biodegradable surfactants based on rhamnolipids. As I have reported in … Continue reading
