Lignin Challenge 1.0 in Canada

FYI for Canadian researchers, institutions, companies or other organizations who are seeking funding!

Alberta Innovates invites proposals for funding under Lignin Challenge 1.0, a sub-program of Alberta Bio Future (ABF). The group is offering this funding in partnership with West Fraser, an integrated forest products company.

Lignin Challenge 1.0, which was launched this month, aims to supports early-stage work to demonstrate the technical feasibility of lignin in high-value applications with potential for commercialization. Alberta Innovates and West Fraser will fund up to 18 projects. Funding requests up to $25,000 will be considered.

Successful applicants will receive:

  • Up to $25,000 in funding.
  • Quantity of lignin from the West Fraser pilot plant.
  • Access to researchers, capacity, and facilities at InnoTech Alberta.

Who is eligible to apply?

  • Researchers at Canadian institutions, companies or other organizations.
  • Projects must be completed within one year.

How to apply

Lignin Challenge 1.0 has a single-stage, online application process: Letter of Intent (LOI) will be accepted until March 15, 2018.  To apply for funding, go to the online application system. This sample form can be downloaded as a reference to assist you in preparing your application:
