, ,

Emery Oleochemicals announced recently that its EMERION™ Herbicide products, EMERION™ 7000 Concentrate, EMERION™ 7030 Concentrate and EMERION™ 7020 Concentrate, have each been certified by the USDA as being a 100% biobased product; thus earning the right to display a unique label that highlights its percentage of biobased content. In addition, the EMERION™ 7020 and 7030 Concentrate products are also OMRI® Listed for Organic Production and Organic Garden Use, respectively.

According to Emery’s brochures, these herbicides are based on ammoniated salts of fatty acid concentrate. Some of Emery’s herbicides also use pelargonic acid, which is derived from oleic acid.

EMERION™ Herbicide is said to be a a natural-based non-selective, contact weed control for burn down of weeds and grasses. Features and benefits of Emery’s EMERION™ Herbicide products include:

  • Visible results achieved within minutes; it kills in hours due to rapid desiccation of undesired foliage
  • Readily biodegradable
  • Tolerance exempt
  • Half-life of 24 hours
  • Efficiency and enhanced production
  • Worker protection with 4 hour pre-harvest interval

“We applaud Emery Oleochemicals for earning the USDA Certified Biobased Product label,” said Kate Lewis, USDA BioPreferred Program. “Products from Emery Oleochemicals are contributing to an ever expanding marketplace that adds value to renewable agriculture commodities, creates jobs in rural communities, and decreases our reliance on petroleum.”

By the way, according to the USDA at the recently held ABLC Next conference in San Francisco, the BioPreferred program currently has around 3000 products listed under its voluntary labeling program while there are 15,000 listed products under the BioPreferred mandated federal purchasing program.
