The blog is still working on my interview with Corinne Young about the new Farm Bill and some of its new benefits for the renewable chemical industry such as the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) BioPreferred Program (preferred Federal purchasing of biobased products and biobased product certification and labeling).
The USDA’s BioPreferred program’s authority and funding comes from Congress through the Farm Bill. According to Ron Buckhalt, BioPreferred Program Manager, the agency’s ability to fully implement BioPreferred has been constrained since the 2008 Farm Bill expired at the end of September 2012.
In February 2014, the new Farm Bill — the Agricultural Act of 2014 — has finally been signed by President Obama, which restores funding for BioPreferred program operations.
The USDA will hold a webinar this Friday, March 14, from 1:00-2:15 EDT, where the USDA Environmental Management Division Chief, Jeff Goodman, will describe details of the BioPreferred program’s re-authorization and planned changes to implement the Farm Bill.
